Born 1949 in Melaka, Chiang Shih Wen is a Malaysian artist who is well-known for his style of integrating the three elements of light, color and space to create layers and depth in his intricate and beautiful portrayal of buildings and environment. Malacca-born Chiang Shih Wen graduated from Kuala Lumpur College of Art in 1974. In 1981, He won an Outstanding award: “Young Artist Competition” which was organized by “Nanyang Siang Pau”. And an award for “Malaysian Landscape in Watercolor” in 1982, organized by The National Art Gallery. Deeply influenced by Post-Impressionist artists like Van Gogh and Renoir, Shih Wen uses watercolors, oils and acrylics on his paintings. He believes art is an evolution and there should be no rules in an artist’s expression on canvas.
