Born in 1966 in Penang, Choo Beng Teong is regarded as the finest wildlife artist in this part of the world. He studied art at the Saints Academy of Art as well as at the Universiti Sains Malaysia. His works can be seen at various auction houses like Christie’s, The Edge as well as Henry Butcher. One of his notable exhibitions was the Malaysian Nature Society’s World Conference on Biodiversity.
Three of his works are on permanent display at the USM Art Gallery. Although birds are his favourite subject, his repertoire of works include flowers, butterflies,plants and others. His medium of choice is watercolor and sometimes include gouache. Choo has stated he will be widening his scope to include other animals as well as working in acrylics and oils. Most of his works are book illustrations for the Malaysian Nature Society One of his most well known work are two sea turtles stamp commissioned by POS Malaysia.
